After several leaks and rumours, Volkswagen India has finally confirmed details about its upcoming launch in the Indian market. The company is all set to introduce the Volkswagen Tiguan R-Line model in India. Additionally, it plans to launch the high-performance VW Golf GTI hatchback in India later this year. There have also been several reports and rumours suggesting that Volkswagen has discontinued the current SUV model, with the R-Line model set to replace it in India. Pre-bookings for the SUV have already begun, and the launch is scheduled for April 2025.
Volkswagen Tiguan R-line Features, Exterior, Interior, Specs
Exterior
The company has not made many changes in its exterior design. But has added sporty R theme design elements to it, which makes this SUV look more sportier. At the front, it now gets an R-line Gloss Black front grille with the VW logo at the centre and connected DRL between headlamps. It now gets IQ LIGHT LED matrix headlights and the front bumper gets a gloss black front grille with functional air vents.
From the side, the SUV looks unique and sportier with black surrounds in the window area, contrasting black side mirrors and R badging at the fender. It comes with 19-inch Coventry diamond-cut alloy wheels. However, in the global markets, Vw offers 20-inch wheels but here in India, they are offering 19-inch wheels.
At the rear, it gets connected LED TAIL LIGHTS setup, roof-mounted spoiler, TIGUAN and R badging at the tailgate. It also has a gloss black-themed fake diffuser for a sporty look.
The Tiguan R-Line will be available in six colours: Nightshade Blue Metallic, Oyster Silver Metallic, Grenadilla Black Metallic, Persimmon Red Metallic, Compression Green Metallic, and Oryx White Mother of Pearl Effect.
Interior
The Tiguan R-line blends luxurious and Sporty Interiors with some unique features. It gets leatherette sports seats with integrated head restraints and precision cushioning with R line Inserts. The interiors feature soft-touch elements on the dashboard, centre console and centre handrests. It has a unique 30-colour digital panel ambient lighting on the passenger side dashboard and doors. The R-line comes with a light black theme interior which looks very classy and upmarket feel. It has a three-spoke flat-bottom leather-wrapped steering wheel with R line badging at the bottom with manual adjustments. It also has a big electronic panoramic sunroof.

Engine and performance
The Volkswagen Tiguan R-Line comes with a 2.0-litre 4-cylinder TSI (Turbocharged Stratified Injection) turbocharged petrol engine. It’s a 1,984cc engine which produces 187 bhp of power @ 4,200-6,000 rpm and 320 Nm of torque @ 1,500-4,100 rpm. This engine is mated to a 7-speed DSG automatic transmission with 4MOTION all-wheel-drive system. The Tiguan R-Line has multiple driving modes, including Eco, Comfort, Sport, and Off-road.
Volkswagen Tiguan R-line Features and Safety
The Volkswagen Tiguan R-line is loaded with features. It comes with 3-zone automatic climate control and ventilated seats with heated and cool features. The front seats also get massage and lumbar support for comfortable long drives. It comes with a 10.25-inch fully digital instrument cluster, a 12.9-inch massive floating touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay/Android Auto, and a Harman Kardon premium 8-speaker sound system. It also has a one-touch auto up/down function for all windows and heat-rejection glass. The Tiguan also comes with connected car technology features. It allows users to control various car functions through the smartphone app.
In terms of safety, the Volkswagen Tiguan R-Line is equipped with advanced features like 9 airbags (as standard), TPMS, traction control, hill descent control, hill start assist, electronic stability control, electronic differential lock, and the 4MOTION all-wheel-drive system. It also includes ADAS Level 2 features such as Adaptive Cruise Control, Lane Keep Assist, Automatic Emergency Braking (AEB), Blind Spot Monitoring, and Traffic Sign Recognition.
