Mahindra XUV 800 / XEV e8 Electric SUV: Everything You Need to Know

After the launch of Be 6 and XEV 9e, Mahindra is gearing up for the launch of a 7-seater electric SUV to continue Mahindra’s commitment to sustainable mobility. As per reports, this upcoming electric SUV could be named Mahindra Xuv 800 or XEV e8. This Upcoming electric SUV will be based on the ICE engine-powered XUV 700 which uses the all-new W601 platform derived from the XUV 500. However, there will be some changes in the exterior and interior design departments.  It will compete with the upcoming Tata Safari EV and Byd eMax 7 in the Indian Market.

Exterior

According to prototype designs and leaks, the Mahindra XUV 800 / XEV e8 will have a similar exterior design to the regular XUV700. But with some changes. At the front, it will feature a new connected DRL setup that blends with Mahindra’s inverted L-shaped LED headlights, a design element exclusive to its EV lineup. It will feature a new closed-off EV design front grille with the Mahindra logo at the centre. From the side, the SUV will come with newly designed alloy wheels made specifically for EVs, but apart from this, it will look almost the same as the petrol and diesel versions. At the rear, it is expected to have a new tail light design with a connected LED lighting setup.

Interior

According to reports, the XUV 800 will also feature the three-screen setup Digital instrument cluster, centre infotainment screen and the co-passenger entertainment screen in the single console setup. It will have a 7-seater configuration and a two-spoke steering wheel, just like other Mahindra EVs. The cabin, centre console, and seat cushioning will remain similar to the ICE version, but there could be new interior colour schemes to differentiate it from the petrol/diesel variants.

Motor, Battery and Range

Mahindra partners with Volkswagen to source 79kWh battery back for its modular electric platform which is also likely to be used in XUV 800 or XEV e8 SUV. It will come in two drivetrain configurations Front Wheel Drive (FWD) and All-wheel Drive (AWD). This motor can produce 282 bhp of power and 380 Nm of torque. It will have an estimated driving range of over 450 kilometres on a single charge. Like other Mahindra EVs, it will also have fast charging. It can charge the battery from 0% to 80% in less than 30 minutes.

Like the ICE version of the SUV, the 8E will be loaded with Features. It will have three 12.3-inch high-resolution displays in a single console. The infotainment screen will have Apple car play / Android Auto and the co-passenger screen will also have a video playback feature. It may also feature 16 speakers setup Harman Kardon audio system with Dolby support or Sony 12 speaker surround sound system. The XUV 800 electric will also have a large electric panoramic sunroof. It will feature a 360-degree camera, three different drive modes, Pawpal mode for pet safety, Eye Dentity Mode for safe driving, electrically adjustable seats with ventilation feature and Headsup display. It will also have Mahindra Artificial Intelligence architecture (MAIA) for seamless connectivity.

The XUV 800 / XEV e8 is built on the W601 platform. The same platform comes in XUV700, which has received a 5-star GNCAP safety rating. It is expected to achieve the same rating in crash tests. For Safety, Mahindra will provide 7 Airbags, ABS, EBD, ESP, Traction Control, a 360-degree camera, ISOFIX child safety mounts, and other necessary safety features. It will also have Level 2+ ADAS features with 5 radars and 12 ultrasonic sensors.

Mahindra XUV 800 Electric SUV Launch Date and Price in India

Mahindra has already showcased a prototype of the XUV 800 / XEV e8 to journalists in London. The SUV is still under development. Once it is production-ready, it will undergo testing, and then Mahindra will finalize the launch timeline. We can expect the launch of XUV 800 or XEV e8 by the end of 2025 or 2026 in the Indian Market. Expected Starting price is Rs 28 lakhs for the Indian market.
